This Bring Your Kids to Work Day, let the Bookmobile come to you — packed with storytelling, rhythm, movement, and creativity. We've designed two expertly curated sessions built specifically for your young guests. Dress comfortably and come ready to move!
SESSION ONE — Ages 4 to 8 Little Storytellers
A magical, movement-filled experience designed for our youngest guests. Every child leaves with a personally signed book and a crown they made themselves — all materials included.
Author Read-Aloud with Valene Campbell, Author of The Amazing Zoe Series. An enchanting live read-aloud that brings beloved characters to life with warmth, humour, and heart. This is storytelling at its most joyful.
Author Book Signing. Each child receives a personally signed copy of The Amazing Zoe — a keepsake they'll treasure.
African Djembe Drum Session Hands-on and high-energy, children explore West African rhythmic tradition through call-and-response drumming that gets everyone engaged and smiling.
Afro-Caribbean Dance Activation: Get ready to move! This inclusive, endorphin-boosting movement session draws from Afro-Caribbean traditions and is designed to get little ones laughing, dancing, and connecting. Comfortable clothing is a must.
Arts & Crafts — Decorate Your Own Crown Every child is royalty! Using vibrant materials, gems, and their own imagination, children design and decorate their very own wearable crown to take home. All materials are included.
SESSION TWO — Ages 9 to 12 Young Changemakers
A dynamic, high-energy experience led by award-winning Poet Laureate Testament Peace (Matthew-Ray Jones) — blending music, poetry slam, and powerful positive messaging that meets young people exactly where they are.
African Djembe Drum Session An energising group drumming experience rooted in West African tradition, exploring polyrhythm, cultural context, and the power of collective sound. Older children engage with the history and heartbeat behind the rhythm.
Afro-Caribbean Dance Activation Movement as expression. This session invites young people into the joy and cultural richness of Afro-Caribbean movement — no experience required, just a willingness to show up and move. Comfortable clothing is a must.
Poetry Slam & Positive Messaging with Testament Peace Award-winning Poet Laureate Testament Peace (Matthew-Ray Jones) takes the stage for a performance experience like no other. Blending music, spoken word, and uplifting positive messaging, Testament connects with young audiences in a way that is equal parts entertaining and transformative. His session is designed to affirm identity, build confidence, and show children aged 9 to 12 that their stories matter and their voices deserve to be heard. This is a performance-led experience — powerful, memorable, and one parents say their children talk about long after the day is done.
Choose Your Own Book — Straight from the Truck Every child selects a book from a curated shortlist of exceptional Canadian authors, sourced directly from the Bookmobile's shelves. The price is included in your package. A shortlist of titles will be provided in advance so children arrive ready to choose their next great read.
